Bridging the Gaps : Food & Agriculture Pre-COP30 strategy & solutions convening

Food systems sit at the heart of the climate change crisis. They are a primary source of greenhouse gas emissions but also hold powerful pathways to adaptation, resilience, restoration and justice. Misaligned policies and fragmented approaches have deepened the crisis, but transforming food and agricultural systems offers a unique opportunity to deliver for climate, nature and people.

The current geopolitical changes form a crucial backdrop to COP30. Looking at the number and quality of NDCs submitted so far, political commitment to climate action appears to be waning. We have an opportunity to engage the food and agriculture sector and promote our agenda in a way that aligns with current political priorities such as food security and economic resilience.

To seize this opportunity, we must craft messages that reflect the current political landscape. Start by addressing people’s immediate concerns—rising food prices and the need for resilient, rather than just efficient, supply chains. This opens up the opportunity to promote regional food systems that are resilient, healthy, and sustainable.

This high-level convening will elevate food and agriculture as critical levers for climate adaptation and mitigation, while highlighting strategic investment pathways that strengthen climate resilience, ensure long-term food and economic security, and promote nature-positive agriculture and food systems.

Through cross-sector dialogue, participants will explore pathways to enhance policy coherence and unlock synergies across climate, biodiversity, and food agendas. The convening aims to catalyse bold, integrated action at national and regional levels, while providing a collaborative space for deeper exchange, shared strategies, and co-created solutions.

Discussions will focus on identifying gaps in food systems transformation and building bridges across adaptation, mitigation, food and nutrition security, climate, and conservation agendas, drawing inspiration from high-level speakers and panelists.

Insights and outcomes will be synthesized into clear, actionable messages to shape the agenda in the lead-up to Belém.
