About
Agroecology is a nature-based solution that enhances food security, biodiversity, and resilience while reducing emissions. As discussions under Article 6.8 of the Paris Agreement evolve, agroecology offers a holistic, non-market pathway for climate action—integrating mitigation, adaptation and sustainable food systems.
This official side event brings together perspectives from research, policy and practice to explore how agroecology can be advanced through non-market approaches (NMAs) under the UNFCCC.
The session will explore:
- Ongoing efforts to generate evidence on how agroecology contributes to climate action outside carbon markets.
- Global and local examples of agroecological initiatives that support mitigation, adaptation, sustainable development, and poverty eradication.
- Expectations for COP30, including Brazil’s role in positioning agroecology as a pathway for a just and sustainable transition of agri-food systems to tackle climate change.
