Peer-to-peer exchange among policy makers

With the “Food Policy Forum for Change”, the project creates a platform where policy makers from around the world can learn from each other through mutual exchange and receive guidance in designing effective measures and initiatives for sustainable food systems.

How can agroecology policies drive the transformation of agriculture and food systems in line with the Sustainable Development Goals? How can we better foster the development of coherent national and local policies based on agroecological elements? Biovision Foundation coordinates an interactive and global Food Policy Forum where policy-makers and official advisors from Asia, Africa and Latin-America will have the opportunity to meet, connect with and get inspired by other policy makers via peer-to-peer exchanges. In addition, the initiative also offers guidance from experts and peers to a group of national and sub-national governments to design effective transformative policies.

The Forum is a joint initiative of the Biovision Foundation and the following organisations:

  • International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM – Organics International)
  • Millennium Institute

The initiative is supported by the following donors:

  • Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC)
  • Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)
  • German Ferderal Ministry for Economc Affairs and Energy
  • Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)

As part of the project, the platform “Food Policy Forum for Change” was created in October 2020 in cooperation with Switzerland and Germany. The platform offers interested actors the opportunity to share and learn about success stories of sustainable food system transformation from their peers. The forum counts with more than 360 members and has carried out 20 exchanges, covering a wide range of topics from policies to support market creation for agroecology, to approaches like Trust Cost Accounting that can reframe food system policies.

Agroecology Info Pool

Biovision is committed to promoting favourable political and economic conditions for agroecology. An understanding of the potential of agroecology will be increased through well-founded information, through bringing together diverse actors in the food system (for example the private sector, civil society organizations and researchers), and through exchange among decision-makers. The project website agroecology-pool.ch gathers current findings from projects and science and makes them accessible to everyone to support a sustainable transformation of the food system.

“To Solve the Climate Crisis, We Need to Rethink”

The influence of agriculture and the food system on the climate has been neglected in climate negotiations thus far. In recent years, Biovision has been advocating for an agroecological transformation to address climate change. It was also present this year at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. We spoke to Tanja Carrillo from our Policy & Advocacy team about whether this conference has brought us a step closer to climate protection.
