Programme Officer Agroecological Systems (80%)

We are looking for a committed personality to strengthen our Development Projects team. In our projects, we promote the development and adoption of evidence-based agroecological farming and market systems as well as healthy nutrition among target communities, building a bridge between science, farmers and consumers in Sub-Saharan Africa. Start date: September 2023 or upon agreement.

In this role, your main tasks and responsibilities as Programme Officer include:

  • Managing, steering and developing a portfolio of project partnerships in East Africa in the field of agroecology, food systems transformation and agricultural development;
  • Monitoring of project progress and of key interventions based on evidence, ensuring joint learning and continuous improvement thus contributing to Biovision’s overall MEL system;
  • Accounting for budgeting processes and financial reporting of your portfolio’s projects;
  • Establishing close links with implementing partners and offer adequate support and coaching to ensure the delivery of project outcomes from a technical, financial and administrative perspective;
  • Maintaining, institutionalising and further developing strategic partnerships with research and other organisations, networking with allies and thematic experts;
  • Supporting fundraising and communication activities in collaboration with the respective Biovision departments.

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated team player with the following qualifications:

  • Relevant work experience (at least 5 years) in international cooperation in an agricultural context, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa;
  • A relevant Master’s degree in agriculture, geography, environmental sciences, rural development, or related fields, ideally complemented with a postgraduate degree in development studies;
  • Proven experience in scientific and evidence-based project work, research for development, knowledge dissemination and agroecological approaches;
  • Proven expertise in one or several of our thematic areas such as food systems transformation, participatory agroecological research and market systems development is a strong asset;
  • Proven experience and creativity in project cycle management and familiarity with key approaches of international development cooperation;
  • Cultural sensitivity and readiness to travel 2-3 times per year (mainly to East Africa);
  • Proficiency in English, very good command (oral and written) of German (at least B2);
  • Ability to work independently in participatory structures with flexibility, humour and critical thinking;
  • Swiss passport or residence permit C / B.

Current internship offers and apprenticeships

Biovision regularly offers internships to help students start their careers. The internships are mainly aimed at students in environmental or political sciences, agroecology or similar fields of study. Vacant internships are published here.

Biovision offers one commercial apprenticeship every year, which is advertised in late autumn for the coming summer. No trial apprenticeships are offered.
