From Grants to Growth: Financing and Enabling Agroecological Enterprises for Food System Transformation
Global food systems are under immense pressure. They fail to nourish the world equitably, contribute to biodiversity loss and climate change, and often marginalize the very farmers who sustain them. A growing body of evidence shows that agroecological enterprises (AEEs)—locally rooted businesses applying the 13 principles of agroecology—can drive systemic transformation.
These enterprises regenerate soils and ecosystems, strengthen local food markets, and provide sustainable livelihoods. Yet, despite their potential, AEEs face systemic barriers to growth: fragmented support ecosystems, limited access to finance, and a lack of investment readiness.
This session will explore how diverse stakeholders can collaborate to mobilize financial and non-financial resources for agroecological enterprises—bridging the gap between local action and systemic change.
This public lecture and panel discussion is part of an exchange visit with four women farmers from the Andhra Pradesh Community Managed Natural Farming Project (APCNF). The event, organized by Weltacker Schweiz to mark the UN Year of the Woman Farmer, will last about 90 minutes and conclude with an apéro.
The event starts with a public lecture from the APCNF delegation, then continues with a panel discussion featuring among others Johanna Herrigel, Programme Manager Swiss Food Policy at Biovision. The panel will be moderated by Tina Goethe (HEKS).

From Farm to Neighbourhood – How healthy food brings people together
What do cooking classes in a settlement in Nairobi and healthy meals in a hospital in Graubünden have in common? Both places show how food can strengthen people, connect communities and open up new perspectives – locally and globally.
At the Biovision Symposium 2025, you will hear from dedicated farmers, young entrepreneurs and pioneers from Kenya and Switzerland. And you will discover what we can achieve together for a fairer, healthier future.
The event will be in German and Englisch with simultaneous translation.
This event will explore practical tools and approaches that support countries throughout the NDC journey—from design to implementation, financing, and tracking—while fostering synergies between the Rio Conventions and other national objectives. Government representatives will open the session by reflecting on national needs for integrated, finance-ready climate action. Experts will then showcase tools and approaches addressing food systems, biodiversity, and climate priorities to support policymakers in translating commitments into measurable action, drawing on concrete examples from animal welfare and biopesticide innovations.
Achieving the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) demands adequate and trackable financing for country-led adaptation solutions, yet this finance remains scarce, fragmented, and difficult to monitor, especially for vital climate-resilient food systems. This side event is designed to move beyond principles and identify practical approaches for unlocking adaptation finance.
This session explores agroecology as an approach to implement non-(carbon) market approaches under Article 6.8 that help countries in delivering ambitious climate action – notably through NDCs and NAPs. Building on practical evidence from IP/LCs, farmers and civil society as well as country policy examples, the event will highlight key elements of agroecology that are at the core of NMAs such as cooperation, capacity-building of food system actors, holistic and integrated approaches, while minimizing environmental and social impacts.
