Peer-to-peer exchange among policy makers

With the “Food Policy Forum for Change”, the project creates a platform where policy makers from around the world can learn from each other through mutual exchange and receive guidance in designing effective measures and initiatives for sustainable food systems.

This project has been completed. The information on this page shows the path Biovision took in collaboration with local partners – and the approaches that were central to it.

How can agroecology policies drive the transformation of agriculture and food systems in line with the Sustainable Development Goals? How can we better foster the development of coherent national and local policies based on agroecological elements? Biovision Foundation coordinates an interactive and global Food Policy Forum where policy-makers and official advisors from Asia, Africa and Latin-America will have the opportunity to meet, connect with and get inspired by other policy makers via peer-to-peer exchanges. In addition, the initiative also offers guidance from experts and peers to a group of national and sub-national governments to design effective transformative policies.

The Forum is a joint initiative of the Biovision Foundation and the following organisations:

  • International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM – Organics International)
  • Millennium Institute

The initiative is supported by the following donors:

  • Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC)
  • Deutsche Gesellschaft fĂ¼r Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)
  • German Ferderal Ministry for Economc Affairs and Energy
  • Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)

As part of the project, the platform “Food Policy Forum for Change” was created in October 2020 in cooperation with Switzerland and Germany. The platform offers interested actors the opportunity to share and learn about success stories of sustainable food system transformation from their peers. The forum counts with more than 360 members and has carried out 20 exchanges, covering a wide range of topics from policies to support market creation for agroecology, to approaches like Trust Cost Accounting that can reframe food system policies.

Making agroecology visible: A Biovision approach

Biovision is committed to improving the political framework conditions for agroecology. A key lever: the visibility of enterprises that successfully implement agroecology. These enterprises demonstrate that economic success and social commitment can go hand in hand, providing compelling evidence in favour of sustainable agricultural policies. In the video, we use the example of an award ceremony in Kigali, Rwanda, to demonstrate exactly how we shine the spotlight on these enterprises.
