Local Seed Increases Biodiversity

Several farmers take care of a field with leafy vegetables in Kenya.
Farmers are shown improved techniques for cultivating traditional vegetables in a demonstration garden in Vihiga County.

Biovision, in cooperation with its partner Bioversity International, is strengthening rural communities by encouraging the cultivation and marketing of traditional vegetable varieties. Local seed banks and farmer resource centres are being developed so that farmers can grow a wider range of vegetable varieties and provide a healthy, balanced diet for their families and customers.
