Martin Schmid

Co-Director of Development Projects Member of the Executive Board

Martin Schmid has been interested in systemic changes that benefit the environment, society and the economy ever since studying environmental sciences at ETH Zurich. After working briefly for an environmental consultancy firm, he spent two years with a Swiss NGO in Burkina Faso, working on natural resource management and building local value chains. Back in Switzerland, he was a consultant for BSS Economic Consultants in the fields of environment, climate and international cooperation. Afterwards, Martin worked for ten years for the NGO HEKS/EPER as head of the Thematic Advisory Services Department and as a consultant for rural development in the Global South. There, he supported projects and programs in Africa and Eastern Europe for sustainable agricultural production, market systems development and sustainable and fair natural resource management.

Since March 2021, Martin Schmid has been responsible for the coordination and further development of Biovision’s Farmer Communication Programme in Kenya and Tanzania. Together with Loredana Sorg, he co-directs the Development Projects Division.

In his free time, the Upper Valais native enjoys mountains big and small, be it while skiing in the winter or hiking and biking in the summer. He also spends a lot of time with his family, at home or while travelling.
