“There is no planet B”

Fabio studied Conservation Biology at the University of Bern and for his masters’ dissertation he used population genetics to verify the behavioural patterns of the hoopoe. After that, he turned his attention to the protection of species in the wider sense and worked at the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) on issues relating to climate und air quality and also as an environmental adviser at INFRAS. As a qualified biologist, he was particularly interested in the interrelationship between biodiversity, climate change and agriculture and a systemic approach to ecological cycles. Fabio completed a postgraduate course in development cooperation (NADEL) at ETH, which allowed him to consider the international dimension of these issues in greater depth. He also worked in Indonesia on a policy project that sought to increase climate resilience in agriculture and forestry. Following three years as a policy adviser for a development NGO in Switzerland, he joined Biovision where he works on issues relating to agro-ecology and climate change. Fabio is also responsible for the Beacons of Hope project run by Biovision in cooperation with the Global Alliance for the Future of Food.

When not working, Fabio likes exercise of all types; he particularly enjoys running after yellow tennis balls on clay or mountain biking or snowboarding in the mountains. To provide a balance, he increasingly enjoys quieter pursuits such as photography and fishing on Lake Morat.
