With the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD), a major international summit is coming up in 2012. Food and agriculture is of high relevance for its themes “Green Economy and "Institutional Frameworks". Rio+20 has the potential to strengthen coherent food security policy and to foster the implementation of sustainable agriculture. Biovision is contributing to the process towards UNCSD 2012 ("Rio+20"), to promote sustainable agriculture as a key issue. It is in this context that two international dialogues are organized on 20^th and 21^st of October 2011.

 

There are various ideas and opportunities on how Rio+20 could address food security and sustainable agriculture. The time is right to reflect on recent developments on Rio+20 with regards to sustainable agriculture and food security and to discuss what would be a meaningful outcome at Rio+20 on sustainable agriculture. It is in this context that Biovision – Foundation for ecological Development, BioEconomy Africa, the Millennium Institute and the More & Better Network are organizing two dialogues:

• Linking Policy, Knowledge and Action to Strengthen Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture at Rio+20, Thursday 20^th of October from 13.00 until 14.30 at UNCC in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. See meeting announcement.
  
  
  
• "Towards Rio+20: Sustainable Agriculture within a Green Economy", Friday 21st of October from 12.30 until 14.30 at FAO in Rome, Italy (Ethiopia Room). See meeting announcement.

Delegates and representatives from governments, international organizations, science and CSO are invited to participate at theses event and to contribute to the discussions.
