57.8 million hectares of organically cultivated land, an increase of 15% within a year, and a turnover of 90 billion dollars – the organic market grows world-wide.
The study of the Research institute for organic farming (FiBL) shows how the space used by organic farming has more than doubled from 21 million hectares in 2001. And the turnover generated by organic products has risen from 17 billion dollars to 90 billion.
Switzerland has the biggest turnover per head in organic products with 274 Euros, followed by Denmark and Sweden.
This positive development is highly welcome. But we should not start relaxing now – the level of organic farming and its marketing is still quite low and there is still a lot to do: Healthy food for all – naturally!
