„With Biovision I can live out two ideals at the same time: my connection to nature and my love for people."
When the days get longer, Peter Lüthi goes to the mountains. The communication and environmental specialist has already spent eleven summers in the Alps. He knows his stuff when it comes to herds of cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and sheepdogs. At the Landquart Agricultural Training and Advice Centre the former teacher runs courses in herding. But he also knows his wolves, bears and lynxes. For this reason he led a herd protection project in Graubünden on behalf of WWF, introducing effective methods of protecting flocks from predators. Lüthi has worked for WWF before: five years as picture editor and environmental educator in Zürich, after that twelve years as environmental protection agent in Graubünden. There he was instrumental in saving famous landscapes such as Greina, Val Curciusa and Val Madris from flooding by reservoirs. There his idealism, experience in public relations and environmental policy, and also his abilities as a co-ordinator and campaign leader all had an effect. The request from Biovision to develop initial activities came at the right time, after Lüthi had already travelled widely in Africa for projects during his time at WWF (Trans-Sahara, Sahel, Tanzania, Kenya, Senegal, Gambia). „The realisation of the ideas of Hans Herren appeals to my pioneering spirit and my idealism„ explains Peter Lüthi. He first started campaigns in Switzerland and projects in East Africa as a freelancer, applying himself to the set-up of the organisation, public relations work and fundraising. In 2005 he took over the leadership of the campaign and communications department under freelance contract. Alongside this, Peter Lüthi heads the small business NaturKultur in Chur. „My dedication to nature and my practical experience as a herdsman give me the necessary grounding for intercommunication with farmers in Africa.“
