Core area: Project Coordinator
„Biovision’s approach and projects enable sustainable development in East Africa. In order to ensure further dissemination of this approach, the general political framework must also change. I feel privileged to be able to make a contribution through my work with Biovision.“
Benjamin Gräub was introduced to Biovision through civil service and a subsequent internship. When subsequently the opportunity arose to take over coordination of the Biovision project „Change of Course in Agriculture“, he didn’t have to think twice. The civil service convinced him that Biovision campaigned effectively for a more sustainable future. Since then, Benjamin Gräub has been working based on the findings of the World Agricultural Report (IAASTD) to identify the potential and opportunities for global sustainable agriculture and to find and implement opportunities of action on the political level. Benjamin believes that problems are not just global, but exist closer to home - in Switzerland for example, awareness of the origin of agricultural products is dwindling and the distance between producer and consumer is growing ever larger. Among the Biovision projects that tackles this issue is „Clever – the sustainable supermarket“ which Gräub coordinates internally.
Media, advocacy and law – within the framework of his work with Biovision, Benjamin Gräub can utilise the knowledge he gained in his degree. He took his Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations at St. Gallen University and is currently completing his Masters in International Relations and International Management (CEMS MIM) and Business Journalism at the same university. Outside of studying he maintains a network of relationships and engagements that he can use to further Biovision’s cause. Gräub is a member of Oikos in St. Gallen, a union of students dedicated to achieving a sustainable economy. There he is involved in a ‚Sustainable Investment‘ project. In Zurich he takes part in ‚The Hub Zurich’, a place for social entrepreneurs to work and connect. Gräub additionally likes to take part in international seminars and conferences and is well-connected online through social media such as Twitter, which are also becoming more and more important for Biovision’s communication.
In his free time, Benjamin Gräub likes to travel, and journeys frequently to the American continent. He has a special relationship with the USA as he completed a year of high school there. He also has fond memories of Colombia, where he spent a semester studying. Gräub has visited Egypt, and through working with Biovision his wish to visit more African countries in the near future grows continually. Alongside travelling he is involved in church youth work and although he considers himself an urbanite, he enjoys rambling in summer and skiing in winter. Benjamin Gräub is also fond of good (organic) food and a glass of wine.
