Healthy Environment
A healthy environment is the basis for all life. In Biovision’s projects, an understanding of ecological relationships is encouraged among the local people, and methods for sustainable use of natural resources are introduced. Organic agriculture and the sustainable use of sensitive ecosystems serve the protection of forests, soil, water and biodiversity.
Biovision’s projects present possibilities as to how fragile ecosystems such as savannahs and forests can be used in a conservational way, without destroying the basis for life.
Support of local communities to protect Biodiversity
Biodiversity the world over is in danger – Africa contains many habitats for rare plant and animal species threatened by environmental exploitation. The Kakamega Forest is one such example – it is the largest rainforest left in Kenya. It is home to over 350 different bird species and many medicinal plants as yet barely researched. Deforestation threatens this ancient rainforest and its unique biodiversity. Biovision supports the communities dependent on the forest, for example, by setting up a distillation facility to process healing plant extracts. The growing exploitation of the Kakamega forest is reduced by creating new sources of income for the local population, and the health of the environment is also strengthened.
